CANDIDATES' COMMUNIQUES

"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and you can fool all of the people some of the time, but if we can fool enough people at election time, that's all the time we need."
- Charlie McKenzie

st-adolphe.info asked the candidates some questions. Here are their responses:

Diane Corriveau

Pierre Lauzon

Why do you want to sit as a Councillor? I make an application as an independent councillor, not in opposition to any party. To answer this last question, I refer you to my website www.dianecorriveau.com as well as to the pamphlet which gives a good summary of my career which naturally leads me to apply as a councillor, a position for which I certainly have aptitudes. Briefly, I apply for this position by interest, passion and conviction that I can bring my knowledge and experience for the benefits of my fellow-citizen. At the request of several citizens who know my outspokenness, my uprightness and my experience as a city councillor, I decided to return to politics in order to pursue issues such as water sports, economic development, etc
What would be your greatest priorities as a Councillor? To facilitate the information’s spreading and to improve communications in and around the organization in order to easily get to the "ultimate solution" for issues which sometimes bring antagonist interests. I am an independent candidate who has in mind the citizen’s well-being, the advances that can be made for the community, the social justice and the environment. This is the position I will keep on all the issues that will be brought to my attention and this is the same approach I have for the psychosocial dynamics of the municipal life. My greatest priorities are the issues mentioned above, but particularly TO INFORM the POPULATION of the methods used by the Roy administration to harm the citizens and business people.
What issues interest you the most? See French response. Economic development is an interesting issue, but it is also necessary to think of our young people, public safety, which are very important issues.
What is currently the greatest challenge before the municipal administration. I do not see any challenge, but a huge joy to evolve in an environment which I know pretty well with future colleagues that I will get to know in order to serve them well and to be attentive to the fellow-citizen needs. Those needs can be related to a single individual, to a collective group, common to both (even antagonists in between the different parties) or due to conjuncture. Facing the impasses created by the current administration, their greatest challenge would be particularly to undertake discussions with those whom they have bullied or try to bully, rather than manage with lawyers and courts.
If elected, how do you foresee your participation in the 2009 general election? I will answer you that I will wait for the issue of the actual campaign first. 2009 is very far away. But the formation of a municipal council which would listen to the population and which would be able to recognize that the municipality belongs to the CITIZENS and not to 2-3 individuals, I would be ready to look at any possibility.
What is your position on economic and recreo-touristic development? Don’t you think it is a little bit too quick to ask this question? I am meeting people and associations in order to get the proper information which will be gathered with the existing one. This exercise is mandatory to consolidate my opinion. I invite you to come and see me later on when this will have be done. As I mentioned, our municipality is a recreo-touristic area, therefore, it is imperative to put an emphasis this, while maintaining our picturesque character.
What can the municipality do to help our businesses? See French response. The promotion of our municipality is of primary importance. The assistance of the municipality towards businesses begins with bi-lateral discussions, and not from the monologues of petty kings.
What is your position on the future of Mont Avalanche? There is an existing administrative group for the Mont-Avalanche issue. A member of this association, Mrs. Beaudoin is already working on it. The efforts are being done in order to validate and develop the activities around Mont-Avalanche. I would certainly have good suggestions to bring to the proper persons to help its development. I would like to become very familiar with this issue. But if efforts must be made, they should be made in partnership with private enterprise, after analyses of the financial statements and the possible alternatives.
What is your position on the closing of the Caisse Populaire and the purchase of the building by the municipality? The Caisse Populaire is an independent entity with its own administration. This administration duty is to represent the cooperative member’s opinion. The answer you are looking for should be oriented in this direction…what do you think? The closing of the Caisse Populaire distresses me very much. Being a member myself since the age of 7 years, in a Caisse Populaire, it is difficult to conceive of this closing. The purchase of the building by the municipality seems to me an unnecessary gesture, as this acquisition will be an additional financial burden for the municipality. These investments should begin with the maintenance of current infrastructures.
What is your position on the boating restriction application deposited in 2006, currently suspended by transport Canada? Until now, I have and I will pursue even after September 16th to meet with my fellow-citizen, francophones and anglophones, to hear about their concerns on the topics you are talking to me. The information I am getting will be transmitted to the administrators and different governments involved. I gather the citizen thoughts on the legislations for “zonage” urban area, transportation, environment, health…it will certainly consolidate my position on those topics. As I have always said, it is useless to impose laws without consultation. The current administration should have tried discussions if it wants to legislate positively. And this discussion should begin with multiple meetings with people concerned, rather than try to impose a personal view.
What is your position on the litigation in progress concerning Bylaw 535-2 and the corresponding preceeding Bylaws? As I mentioned in the 4th point above, discussion would have been preferable to the courts. Also, this debate before the courts shows well that the current administration prefers the courts rather than discussion and the possibilities of amicable agreement.
What is your position on the provisions in the new zoning bylaws concerning the protection of the shoreline? There is an environmental aspect which one must respect. But I have trouble understanding how things have been done. Have the greatest defenders done work before the implementation of the bylaw?
What is your position on the state of septic installations in the municipality? Above, I spoke about the current infrastructures which need investment (sewage, aqueduct, etc). If no investment is foreseen, we are leaving to our future generations an immense debt which they will have to assume because their predecessors will not have been capable of self-disclipline.
What is your general opinion of the Roy Administration? I refer you to my pamphlet and my Web site again. I remember you that I am an independent candidate. I’m on the side of the people, the community achievement, the social justice and the environment. Also, my approach is mediation without involvement in any party whatsoever. Remove the word opposition from your vocabulary. I come to bring a positive way of doing things in Saint-Adolphe d’Howard. War has never solved any issue but resulted in many deaths. I attended some meetings of this administration and I question whether one must call it the “ROY ADMINISTRATION” or simply call it “ROYAL RULE”.
What is the greatest success of the Roy Administration? One can say that the roads that were in very bad condition, and that there is the start of corrective measures, though it would be necessary to thank the Ministry of Transport of Quebec (MTQ).
What is the greatest failure of the Roy Administration? I am very sorry, but the editor asked us to write only 100 words per question.
How do you see your role as opposition Councillor? See French response. If the current elected officials are rational, logical and do their work the way it should be done, that is, while thinking of the population in general, while thinking of our future generations, while thinking of investments in current infrastructures, while thinking of economic development, while thinking of the activities of our young people, etc….you will be able to ask the same question of the mayor!
